Prostate Cancer Survivor – Wes's Envita Review

Prostate Cancer Survivor – Wes's Envita Review

It was 2017 when Wes first started to develop problems urinating. After going to his doctor, he was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In early 2018 his blood work revealed he had extremely high levels of PSA (prostate-specific antigens). Since elevated PSA can be a cancer indicator, Wes's urologist decided to recommend him for a biopsy. This biopsy revealed that Wes was positive for prostate cancer and he was referred to “the experts” including a radiation oncologist and a surgeon at a major medical center in Arlington Texas. Both these doctors utilized the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines to recommend a one-size-fits-all treatment protocol based on Wes's cancer type and stage. Wes's was given two choices: radiation or surgery. This was not enough for him. He wanted more options and decided to research on his own so he could get information that was more than just "one-sided."

The first question Wes asked about conventional cancer treatment was, “Is any of this stuff going to work for me, and is it working for others?” He found that the survival rate from conventional treatment of prostate cancer had improved little over the last 60 years. The stringent protocols of the NCCN do not account for the individual nature of cancer and it heavily relies on strict one-size-fits-all treatment protocols. Wes had to ask himself, “why should I participate in a losing cause?” He decided to abandon the conventional route for a treatment that did not solely rely on radiation and surgery.

This was a turning point for Wes. His research into an alternative to traditional cancer treatment led him to Envita. Wes reached out with a phone call and was immediately impressed with one of Envita's Patient Care Coordinator's, Ashley. Like all our PCC's, she spent time learning as much as she could about Wes, diving deeper into his condition and providing insight he had not considered. Wes was convinced it was worth going to Arizona to get a consultation with Envita's doctors, and after speaking with Dr. Sears and Dr. Oertle, he was even more impressed with the level of personalized care and attentiveness that Envita had to offer. Dr. Sears and Dr. Oertle spent the time talking with Wes about his life so they could understand Wes's specific cancer and some of the factors that may have contributed to its development.

Envita's utilizes in-depth, next-generation genetic testing for our cancer patients to identify cancer biomarkers, mutation loads, and circulating cancer cells. This helps us get the most up-to-date information for targeting our patient's unique cancer. We also incorporate genetic testing for oncogenes and genes connected with cancer prevention in order to potentially shut down mutation-causing genes while upregulating the expression of genes that help fight your cancer. Furthermore, Envita's whole-body approach looks at environmental factors like toxic compounds, chemical loads, heavy metals, and metabolism to try and pinpoint the exacerbating factors that are contributing to your cancer progression. We look to provide an all-inclusive plan for our patients so we can attack your cancer from all angles. After hearing the top-of-the-line treatment Envita was offering, Wes decided that Envita was the right choice and he began his journey to progressing against his prostate cancer.

Wes was doing Envita's Genetically Targeted Fractionated Chemotherapy (GTFC™) as part of his treatment protocol and he achieved amazing results. The heart of GTFC™ is its ability to genetically target a patient's unique cancer markers while reducing the chemo doses being administered. This treatment method provides tailored treatment while potentially reducing the major negative side-effects patients experience during traditional chemotherapy treatment. For Wes, “GTFC™ [was] a trojan horse type therapy that works.”

Wes found great value in the treatment at Envita and he knows that the resulting blood work, in his word, “is scientific proof that it works.” Conventional medicine has spent billions of dollars testing to see if a chemotherapy works against specific cancer types, but they do little when it comes to looking at the individual genetics of the patient and giving them a personalized treatment. In Wes's eyes, “Envita is a cultural fit for me, they believe as I do.” He sees that Envita is committed to giving our patients personalized, genetically-targeted treatments options for their unique cancer.

In all his time at Envita no one ever talked about survival rates or success statistics because as Wes says, “we are here for the long haul.” Wes is looking forward to coming back to Envita in 20 or 25 years to say hello to all the people he connected with at the clinic and he is 100% sure that he made the right choice when he came to Envita Medical Centers. Wes knows if he had to make the same choice today, he would do it all over again.
